The Decitone

DecitoneDuringithe school year of 2013-2014, Andrew embarked on the journey of a research project entitled “Implementation of a Ten-Tone Equal Temperament System.”  He later submitted the abstract and was selected to give an oral presentation at the National Convention of Undergraduate Research (NCUR) at the University of Kentucky and to give a poster presentation at the Undergraduate Research at the Capitol Harrisburg (URC-PA).  Andrew also submitted his abstract and participated in the Duquesne Undergraduate Research Symposium (URSS) where he received the Office of the Provost: Outstanding Scholarship Award.  “Implementation of a Ten-Tone Equal Temperament System” involves the creation of a musical system that is based off of ten tones instead of twelve.  In Andrew’s research, he created an application that allows anyone to use this new musical system, called the Decitone.  All that is needed is a Computer, a MIDI Keyboard, and the standalone application.  Andrew’s paper is also published in the 2014 NCUR Proceedings. Please feel free to email him at andrewgula@andrewgula.com should you have any questions. Enjoy!

Special thanks to Dr. Wiskus for all of her guidance throughout the research process.

Please note that the NCUR Proceedings downloads may not work with the Firefox Browser.

Also, Version 1 of the “Decitone” currently only runs on Mac.
